Pest resistance to any particular class of pesticides can
to develop after frequent and repeated use of a product of that category.
Therefore, use of this product should be based on individual judgment
individual case and in the local epidemiological information about the current
susceptibility of target species, in order to limit the possibility of resistance to a
future choice.
Maintaining the efficacy of macrocyclic lactones is critical for control
of Dirofilaria immitis. To minimize the risk of resistance, it is recommended that
dogs should be tested for circulating antigens and microfilariae in the blood
them, at the beginning of each period of preventive treatment. They should be treated
only the negative animals.
4.5 Special precautions for use
Due to the absence of available data, the treatment of puppies younger than
8 weeks and dogs weighing less than 2 kg should be based on estimation
benefit-risk assessment by the responsible veterinarian.
In areas endemic with heartworm, dogs should be checked for the possible
existence of parasitism before administration of NEXGARD SPECTRA. On his own judgement
veterinarian, infested dogs should be treated with an adulticide for
removal of adult parasites. NEXGARD SPECTRA is not indicated for
clearance from microfilariae.
Nexgard Spectra antiparasitic pills for dogs can be used as part of seasonal treatment for them
fleas and ticks (replace treatment with mono-potent flea-only product
and ticks) in dogs that have simultaneously diagnosed gastrointestinal parasites
from nematodes. One administration is effective for the treatment of gastrointestinal
nematodes. After treatment of nematode infestations, further treatment for
fleas and ticks should be continued with a monovalent product.
